Resize an image to exact pixel dimensions

Change the width and height of a JPG, PNG, or WebP image when a website, document, or upload form requires a particular size. This tool resamples the existing picture; it does not generate a new background or add missing details. The preview shows the original until you apply your settings, then shows the processed file at the chosen dimensions.

How to resize a photo

  1. Select an image from your device. The upload limit is 10 MB and 24 megapixels.
  2. Enter a width or height in pixels. Keep aspect ratio enabled to calculate the other dimension from the source image.
  3. If you need a different shape, consider cropping or expanding the canvas first. Unlocking the ratio allows different width and height values, but can stretch the subject.
  4. Choose Resize image, review the output size, and download the PNG.

Choosing a useful output size

Use the dimensions requested by your destination rather than making every image as large as possible. A smaller image is often enough for a content column or product card. Increasing the pixel dimensions of a small source does not recover sharp detail: the browser interpolates existing pixels. This is a size adjustment tool, not an AI upscaler.

For example, a 2400 × 1600 source becomes 1200 × 800 when you halve the width with the ratio locked. Entering 1200 × 1200 with the ratio unlocked will distort that source. Use the crop tool for a square crop, or canvas expansion to keep the whole image with margins.

Processing, transparency, and limits

The image is decoded and resized in this browser tab without an upload to our server or AI provider. The download is PNG and can preserve transparent areas. PNG file size depends on image content; reducing dimensions does not guarantee a particular file size.

Each output side must be a positive whole number no larger than 8192 pixels, and the total output must stay within 24 megapixels. A browser can fail below these limits on a device with little available memory. Try smaller dimensions if processing fails.

Common questions

Does resizing preserve the photo's shape?

Yes, when Keep aspect ratio is enabled. If you disable it, the width and height are independent and subjects may look wider or taller.

Why is the file downloaded as PNG?

The tool exports one consistent format with transparency support. It does not promise to keep the source format, metadata, or color profile unchanged.

Can I add more background instead?

Use AI image expansion to generate background outside the original borders. Read the expansion guide to compare resizing, cropping, and outpainting.
